From the existing rectangular design of 1964, it was with the architect’s creative vision to expand the space for students, faculty, and staff by adding a continuous loop to the original building, using staggered columns cladded in a copper panel system that fell atop one another in a domino-effect design.
This unique architectural feature required a transition from wall to roof cladding, the ACM Panelworx Design Assist team incorporated drainage paths within the system that mitigate water infiltration and maintain airflow within the wall cavity.
Custom extrusions were designed to increase function and create an integrated panel and curtainwall system.
The ACM Panelworx Team’s knowledge of natural metal panel systems was an integral part of the design process. The decision to use EVO™ RIVETLESS™ extrusions (by Carter) with Natural Copper was made to achieve a rivet less exterior and LEED certification, while adding an iconic finish to the exterior. This purposeful choice also creates a timeless design, as the copper will continue to transform into a lasting patina.
In collaboration with the project’s architects and engineers, the ACM Panelworx Design Assist Team contributed technical expertise that helped bring this award-winning vision to life. The Business Innovation Hub stands as a testament to design ingenuity, having earned the 2020 UNESCO Prix Versailles for Best Exterior in the Campuses category.
