The transformation of Amway Headquarters’ lobby, interior, and exterior was a collaborative effort uniting creativity, precision, and functionality. Progressive Companies’ award-winning design guided the renovation, with Amway Corp. and Rockford contributing to a strikingly re-imagined outcome.
The renovation began after partial demolition of the original one-story structure, with the remaining foundation repurposed to support the new two-story design. Founded in 1959, Amway has grown into a global direct-selling company known for its leadership and innovation values, which were reflected in this rebuild.
To achieve the architect’s design intent, Progressive Companies carefully selected from a variety of white tones and finishes, choosing a pearlescent white that balanced both shine and warmth. The PX-10 rainscreen system, fabricated by the ACM Panelworx, featured custom large-format panels for a polished appearance, emphasizing minimal lines and superior finish quality.
This resulted in a striking pearlescent overhang that extended from the exterior into the interior lobby, incorporating energy-efficient, integrated LED light strips. Perforated ceiling panels in the same pearlescent white were incorporated for added visual rhythm and texture. The AIA award-winning renovation, led by the architects at Progressive Companies, focused on biophilic design principles throughout.
The stainless-steel vestibule was constructed using composite 4mm panels, precisely cut and finished to exact tolerances, elevating the entry experience. Custom woodgrain extrusions were chosen to pair with existing natural wood designs. The extrusions were integral to both sunshade functionality and visual continuity, elevating the sustainable design features.
Tubular and corrugated extrusions were meticulously fabricated to ensure seamless installation without visible gaps. Custom 3D-printed prototypes of the extrusions were developed to test alignment, appearance, and functional performance before final installation.
To ensure complete accuracy before the Amway Headquarters renovation, the Design Assist team provided on-site 3D scanning to capture existing conditions in precise detail. This process established the foundation for design and fabrication, improving efficiency and ensuring exact measurements.
The ACM Panelworx on-site 3D scanning service measured each connection point, capturing the geometry of each surface, and creating a comprehensive digital model. This allowed the team to identify structural variances, plan precise panel dimensions, and coordinate complex fabrications across both interior and exterior assemblies.
By eliminating guesswork and minimizing adjustments, the scans ensured the reclad and extrusion systems fit with millimeter-level precision. Starting with reality capture allowed the team to model confidently, reduce rework, and maintain perfect alignment from concept to installation.
